An Impressive Network of Social Services

In the spirit of a tradition where concern for the disadvantaged, the infirm and the sick reigns paramount, Kiryas Joel boasts an impressive network of public and private social service, benevolent, and charitable organizations and agencies.

The Village’s Community Service Office provides information and referral services and assists those who are eligible for government entitlement programs. The Hatzoloh Volunteer E.M.S. operates 6 ambulances and includes a large number of volunteers, including specially trained paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

The 50 Hatzoloh volunteers are noted for their remarkably quick response time, cooperative efforts with surrounding areas volunteer ambulance services and local hospitals, assisting police on the adjacent major highways, and even providing medical evacuation helicopter service to major hospitals.

The Senior Citizens Dining Program provides elderly residents (mostly Holocaust survivors) with daily nutritious hot meals. In addition, they benefit from a variety of other activities, including lectures and exercise.

Kiryas Joel is well known for its distinctive attention to those who require special services. Hamaspik operates group homes and programs for the handicapped. (Website). In addition, Kiryas Joel’s network of services includes Bikur Cholim (visiting the sick), Tomchei Shabbos (Sabbath food for the needy), Ezer Nesuin (aid to help the young needy marry), and numerous loan societies.

A 40,000 sq. ft. Community Health Center was constructed to accommodate the growing health needs of Kiryas Joel and its neighbors. Operated by Ezras Choilim Health Center, Inc., the state-of-the-art center provides services in the areas of obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, optometry, allergy, dermatology, podiatry, cardiology, ear, nose and throat, pulmonary, health education, urology, dental, laboratory and x-ray services.

Kiryas Joel’s Fire Department operates out of a newly built fire station with 50 well-trained volunteers. Their state of the art equipment includes 2 pumper trucks, a ladder truck and a rescue truck.
